What is DTF printing?

Every color. No screens.

With DTF, your design is printed in full color onto a special film, then heat-pressed onto the garment. Since there are no screens to make, a 10-color design costs the same to set up as a 1-color one.

That makes DTF a smart choice for detailed artwork, photos, gradients, small quantities, and orders that mix different garment types.

  • Full-color art, gradients, and photos
  • Great for small runs and one-offs
  • Works on cotton, polyester, and blends
  • Crisp detail on light and dark garments

Our process

How a DTF print is made

  1. 01

    Print on film

Your design is printed in full color, plus a white base layer, onto special transfer film.

  2. 02

    Powder & cure

An adhesive powder is applied to the wet print and cured so it's ready to bond.

  3. 03

    Heat press

The transfer is pressed onto your garment with heat and pressure.

  4. 04

    Peel & finish

The film is peeled away, leaving a crisp, flexible print on the fabric.

FAQ

DTF printing questions

What does DTF stand for?

DTF stands for direct-to-film. The design is printed onto a film, coated with adhesive powder, cured, and then heat-pressed onto the garment.

Will a DTF print crack or peel?

A properly pressed DTF print is flexible and holds up well to washing. To keep it looking its best, wash inside out in cold or warm water and tumble dry low or hang dry.

What can DTF be printed on?

DTF works on a wide range of fabrics — cotton, polyester, and blends, in light or dark colors. Tell us what you'd like printed and we'll confirm it's a good fit.

What file should I send for DTF?

A high-resolution PNG with a transparent background, sized at about 300 dpi at the final print size, gives the best results. Not sure about your file? Send it over and we'll check it.
